How to link your Migawka card to the system in 30 seconds

By Tomasz Lewandowski, Customer Service Department·January 28, 2025·2 min read

Have a Łódź Migawka card in your wallet? Great, because from now on it can serve as your personal key to all 47 Cryptoreporter stations in the city. Instead of typing codes on the terminal screen, you just tap the card and go.

Why spend these 30 seconds on registration?

Most of us associate the Migawka only with trams like line 10 or 11, but at Cryptoreporter we treat it as the fastest identifier. Card registration takes exactly 28 seconds if you already have an account in our app. You don't need to scan anything or send photos of documents to the office at Piotrkowska 102. You just need to approach any of our terminals, of which we have 47 in the city, once. The card becomes your unique side number, which eliminates the need to remember logins on a rainy day.

Our statistics show that 68% of regular users in Łódź use exactly this method. It's simply convenient when you're standing by Manufaktura and want to head toward Plac Wolności quickly. You don't have to take off your gloves to unlock your phone or worry about the battery dying halfway. The city card works passively, so the Cryptoreporter system will recognize it even if your smartphone is completely discharged. This is pure practicality, without unnecessary technological messing around that sometimes fails at the least convenient moment.

Bike ready in a minute, and with a city card even faster.
Why spend these 30 seconds on registration?

Step by step at the station terminal

Go to any station – for example the one at Off Piotrkowska or at Fabryczna Station. On the main screen, select the 'Log in' option. Instead of typing your phone number, look at the card reader located right under the screen. Tap your Migawka to the reader and hold it for about 3.2 seconds. The system will display a message that the card is not yet assigned to any account. This is normal behavior for the first attempt. Now the terminal will ask you for your phone number linked with Cryptoreporter.

After entering the number, you will receive an SMS with a 4-digit verification code. Type it on the screen, and the system will automatically link your unique Migawka number with your Cryptoreporter wallet. From now on, every subsequent approach to a bike looks like this: you walk up, tap the card, select the bike number, and the lock releases. The whole thing takes less time than taking change out of your wallet. We tested this with a group of 14 volunteers and the average bike unlock time dropped from 45 seconds to just 12 seconds.

Safety and account funds

Many people ask us if linking the Migawka means we will take money from their MPK account. The answer is simple: no. The Migawka serves us exclusively as a secure identifier, like a physical login. Settlements still take place through your wallet in the Cryptoreporter system, which you can top up with 10, 20, or 50 PLN. If you lose your city card, you just log into our site and unbind the old card number with one click. It's safer than keeping all data in one app.

It's also worth knowing that Cryptoreporter has no hidden fees for using the Migawka. The first 18 minutes of every ride are included in the standard starting fee, which is 2.40 PLN. Thanks to card integration, the system immediately sees your discounts if you are a student of Łódź universities or hold a Łódź Citizen Card. Our team of 9 specialists ensures the databases synchronize every 14 minutes, so any changes in your status are almost immediately visible at the station.

Pay and ride, without checking the app every five minutes.

What if the reader doesn't react?

Sometimes it happens, especially with older Migawka models issued before 2019, that the reader needs a moment longer. If nothing happens after 5 seconds, try taking the card out of your wallet. Some other contactless cards or RFID blockers in wallets might interfere with the signal. We had 7 such cases last month and in each, taking the card out of its case solved the problem. Cryptoreporter terminals are frost and rain-resistant, but dust on the reader can sometimes hinder contact – just wipe it with your sleeve.

If you still have trouble linking it, call us at +48 42 633 22 11. We are in the office from Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM. (By the way, someone is also on duty on Saturdays until 1:00 PM, so feel free to reach out). Our employee can manually assign your card number to your account in 2 minutes if you give them the unique code found on the back of your Migawka. You don't need to come to us in person; we'll handle everything over the phone as long as you have an active user account.
